2006 Mercedes Key Fob Only Works Up Close

Aug 22, 2018 - I had the same problem - only worked very close to the ignition column. I soldered two thin wires from the battery to the board, and hey presto.

My remote started working only from VERY short distances. I replaced the battery twice, and no change.Around the same time my reception on my radio went south. So i put off looking into the problem until i fixed that, (thinking the remote might make use of the same antenna or somthing). Well now i've fixed my radio problem. But the remote still only works a foot or so from the car.anyone experience this problem before, or have recomendations on where to look.

My wife's CRD key fob remote works about 1/2 mile away.my remote would work a good distance. I used to use the panic button to find it in a parking lot. Then suddenly it didnt work very far. I cant recall if it gradualy got worse or if it worked well one day ond not the next. But i do recall getting a battery for th remote soon after and it didn't help, 2 more batterys later and i figure it is not the battery.anyone know where the remote system on the car has its antenna?i wish i had a second remot to test to see if its the remote or not. I hate to spend the bucks on a new remote, only to find its not the problem.

Ed Rhee/CNETThe temperature inside your car can get insanely hot on sunny days, regardless of the temperature outside. When you get to your car and it's boiling hot, what's the first thing you do?

You lower the windows and blast the air conditioner, right?A convenient feature that's been around for years, but remains unknown to many car owners, is the ability to lower the windows with the key remote. This allows you to begin cooling your car without having to get in first. Unless the car dealership told you about this trick or you happen to read manuals for fun, you may have been unaware of this ages-old trick. Related stories. The trick usually involves pressing the remote's unlock button, releasing it, then pressing it again and holding it down. In some cars, like Acuras, instead of using the remote, you can insert your key in the door lock and turn it clockwise, release, then turn it clockwise again and hold. Turning the key counterclockwise will usually raise the windows back up.

Volkswagens require the key to be turned the opposite way (counterclockwise to lower and clockwise to raise), so if it doesn't work in one direction, try the other direction.
