Total War Warhammer Faction Tier List
The in-game Total War: Warhammer encyclopedia may take a few moments to spin up but once it does you'll find it contains useful introductions to the main races and characters of the Warhammer World. The can also help you get to grips with who the legendary lords are and what the playable factions are all about. However, Warhammer has been around since 1983 and has accumulated a lot of background detail since then, a fair bit of which bleeds into Total War: Warhammer.
If you're wondering what country that is on the far side of the map or who all these gods everyone talks about are, this is the guide for you.The other nations of the Old WorldThe Empire may be the mightiest human nation of the Old World (though Bretonnia probably has something to say about that), but it's far from the only one. To the north there's Kislev, loosely modeled on Russia and Eastern Europe–the name comes from Czechoslovakia–which is ruled by Tzarina Katarin, a master of ice magic. Her father, Tsar Boris, famously rode a bear into battle. The Kislevites form a bulwark against the Chaos Wastes and the first line of defence against invasion, which means they tend to suffer most at its hands. No wonder they ride bears.Beyond Kislev are the Norscan tribes, which you'll probably have figured out are rough equivalents of Norway and the rest of Scandinavia. These Viking people live closest to Chaos, and have internalised its influence—many of them are shapeshifters, and most of the Chaos Marauders are drawn from their warriors.Far to the southwest, nestled safely underneath Bretonnia, are the Tilean City-States and the Estalian Kingdoms.
Total War: Warhammer II is out and it’s a blast. Like all Total War games, it is also a complex beast, and it can be hard to get your head around at first.
Based on Italy and Spain respectively, these divided nations are too busy with their internal politics to play much of a role in the rest of the Old World and are too far from Chaos to see them as much of a threat.Bordering them to the south are the Border Princes, the humans you're most likely to encounter first as the Greenskins.
Welcome to!A subreddit for all of those who love the Total War series. New MP matchup thoughts:High Elves took a big hit.
They used to be able to claim fame as the best cavalry in the New World, but dragon princes don't stack up against Bretonnia, Bloodknights, chaos or Demigryphs. I think that the Triple Princes build will fall out of favour against any old world factions, except maybe the Dwarves. They also can't compete in the skirmish game with Wood Elves, and while their net combo is still strong the empire seems to do net builds better with the usual light wizard + handgunners + demigryphs. Overall the high elves lost a lot of their splendour.
They still reign supreme in terms of Dragons and other flyers (though I haven't matched a High Elves vs Bretonnian goon squad yet). EDIT: just watched High Elves vs Bret game and RPK plus Paladin and Louen anhilated High Elves Dragon builds. Watch another game in which High Elves beat Bret because Bret didn't bring air superiority.Dark Elves seem to have pretty good matchups versus the dwarves (as in, they absolutely shred the dwarves) and the empire.
I haven't played Dark Elves vs Woodelves as DE yet, but I've actually been having a great time beating Dark Elfs using Wood Elves so i'll be interested to see how that matchup goes. Once again, I havent seen a Bret vs DE matchup but that one would probably be pretty even.
Played only a single DE vs VC and DE infantry rush seemed pretty strong against them, while the overabundance of AP damage let DE kill off the Vampire lord pretty quick.lizardmen I have seen like one person play lizardmen so far, but it was also a stomp because lizardmen seem to quite thoroughly shit on Vampire counts. Lizardmen will likely struggle with the empire net builds (and halberd demis) but I would imagine that they will have just as much fun ripping through dwarves as anyone else. Haven't seen them vs Chaos or Bret.Skaven I don't play Skaven but I did get absolutely shit on by them as wood elves.
Granted, this was partially due to my poor micro and picnic in the face of 4-6 gutter runners. Skaven seem to shit on Dawi Hard even with the new Tormentor sword. I've seen Skaven beat Vampire counts pretty well, they are able to match their numbers and lack of Bonus versus large in VC lineups makes HPA actually viable and doomwheels crazy strong. Skaven seem strong.I think overall Dwarves are staying near the bottom.
The new thanes are a good addition but Dark Elves give them huge issues. Dark Elves will settle near the top of the list, with lizardmen, high elves and skaven probably ending up as mid-high tier factions. Dwarves wouldn't be AS BAD in a blind matchup, but every time you see Dwarves you have a way to deal with it. The moment you see them, you bring chariots and win.I also think Vampire counts' reign might be over. They don't have a lot of tools to deal with the new world factions.Highly tentative tier list:A: Bret,A-: VC, Dark ElvesB+: GS, Empire, Skaven, Lizardmen, High ElvesB: Wood Elves, Chaos,B-: BeastmenC+: Dorfs. Yes actually, I find that empire troops have been routing very fast. I doubt its due to a bug, though.
More likely its due to changes to other units balance. It could also be due to your opponents Chevron'ing their troops. Chevron's got a cost decrease and an effect buff so rank 9 infantry lines are pretty crazy now (Rank 9 Dryads for wood elves in particular hurt like a bitch for pretty cheap).I was bringing a build of 4 Swordsmen, 3 Halberds, 4 handgunners, 3 demis, light wizard and general. However ive been finding that build a lot less effective in ME. Ive switched to Volks' wagon, light wizard, four flagellants, 3 halberds, 3 hangunners and 2 demis. I haven't played too much multiplayer as of yet, but I'll give my impressions of my experiences so far.Woodelves seem strong versus skaven imo.
Total War Warhammer Factions Ranked
Main line of dryads and eternal guard seems to stomp over most of their troops, and swiftshiver shard scouts dish out an insane amount of dps. Two units of these guys and you basically win the range battle. Don't bring large units however, warp lightning cannons are all the craze in this matchup and you don't need the headache.High Elves vs wood elves. Lothern Sea Guard with shields shit all over them at range and melee. Mvp in this matchup hands down.

Had 4 units, they out-dueled twice their number of glade guard, waywatchers and riders (granted, the ww were deployed way too close).Kholek is a beast atm. As High Elves I can't seem to take him down at range or catch him in melee. Would appreciate advice on this.Dwarfs don't seem that bad, except vs dark elves. They just handle incredibly different to almost all other factions, and that leads to a lot of noob compositions.
